This week saw the arrival of perhaps the most anticipated TV show episode of all time. Game of Thrones is back for one last season, and everyone, including those who don’t watch the show, is talking about it. To celebrate the launch of season 8, Shalmali Kholgade has decided to put her talent to use. She has created a Game of Thrones theme cover in her own vocals, and has also supplemented that with a creepy video that’s live now on YouTube.

This cover version of the Game of Thrones theme doesn’t deviate much from the original tune. Shalmali has sung it along with her singing partners, and the entire song has been mixed by professionals. But it’s the music video that will most intrigue you. It has been shot in a house where the camera roams through empty rooms before these rooms get filled with strange people staring at you. Shalmali is one of those people, and the rest are people who work with her on a regular basis. The entire video has been captured in one uncut shot.

Said Shalmali, “Being a big Game of Thrones fan, I wanted to do something for the final season. I had initially thought of doing an acapella version of the theme with me Ria, Neha, Simran and Pratiksha (my singing partners), but given that the theme is ginormous when it comes to the sound, I felt it needed more people. I therefore thought of making the cover – an activity to bring everyone together.”

She even added, “The people featured in the video include everyone who has sung the theme as well as worked with me be it musicians, singers and people, who have been associated with my band. They are very special to me.”

The first episode of the final season of Game of Thrones arrived in India in the wee hours of April 15. Only six episodes have been sanctioned for this season, but the final four will be around 80 minutes long, which is almost as long as a feature film.
