Singer Sharry Mann, who stars in the movie Marriage Palace, has just had the film’s new song Phone Milawaan released via the White Hill Music YouTube channel. This Punjabi track, as its name suggests, is about phone calls. But there are no smartphones involved here, as all the conversations are taking place via landline. That’s because the music video of Phone Milawaan is set during the 1990s.

Sharry Mann has sung the song entirely, while the music has been provided by Giftrulers. Baljit Singh Gharuan is responsible for the lyrics of Phone Milawaan. The song starts off with Sharry’s character trying to speak to a girl he likes, played by Payal Rajput. She is quick to snub his advances, but Sharry still continues to pursue her. This premise is described by the lyrics, “Main phone milawaan. Saddi gall na hove. Assi dass nai sakde. Dil kinna rove.”

Seeing that the girl is still not showing any interest in him, Sharry presents her with an audio cassette, which has a letter in it. This manages to melt her, and their romance starts blooming. The music video does take efforts to cash in on the 1990s nostalgia, but it just doesn’t feel authentic due to the poorly constructed story.

The song itself is better than the video. It’s got a sound that’s detached from the thousands of similar sounding tracks that are coming out of Punjab at the moment. Sharry Mann has done a great job at singing this one.

The movie Marriage Palace is out in theatres right now. It has been directed by Shivani Thakur and Sunil Thakur, while its writing credits go to Rakesh Dhawan. This film stars Sharry Mann, Payal Rajput, Jaswinder Bhalla, BN Sharma, Herby Sangha, Nisha Bano, Anita Devgan, and Nirmal Rishi.
