Unarguably, Pakistan’s most famous band, Strings has released the seventh track from their new album 30, in the form of Naina. This track has them teaming up with Sona Mohapatra, who provides her perfectly idyllic voice to complement the Sufi brilliance of the song. The band is celebrating 30 years in the industry this year, which is the reason why their album is called 30.

This song is based on the poem Ghar Naari Ganwaari by Amir Khusrow, which talks about the poet’s love and devotion towards Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya. These lines have been beautifully written by the original writer, but Pakistani author Anwar Maqsood has added some new verses to them as well.

Naina maintains the beauty of the lyrics with its music. Soft acoustic strums and sombre flute notes play in the background as Faisal Kapadia opens up the song with his familiar voice. Sona Mohapatra is again in top form with her vocals. Her voice is perfectly suited for the kind of song that Naina is.

The best thing about this song is the atmosphere it creates. It pleasantly haunts you right after you stop listening to it, making you want to listen to it again. Strings fans are no strangers to this feeling. After all, the band has been dishing out smash hits for thirty years now.

They began their music careers back in 1988, and released their self-titled first album two years later, in 1990. Their second album came in 1992, and consisted of the breakout hit, Sar Kiye Yeh Pahar. It’s after this that Strings disbanded to pursue other careers. But 1999 saw them coming together yet again, and there was no looking back from then. Hits like Duur, Anjane, Dhaani, Kahani Mohabat Ki, Mera Bichraa Yaar and more kept coming from the band the following years.

And they still continue to mesmerize us with their music. This is a testament to the immense musical talent that the band possesses. Their album 30 features other great numbers as well, like Piya Re, Mil Gaya, Hum Dono and others, so do make sure to listen to them.
