Taylor Swift has released a new single in the form of ‘You Need to Calm Down,’ a song that could well become a queer anthem in the time to come. This second single from her upcoming album Lover, has the singer lending support for the LGBTQ+ community, and its video also features cameos from popular LGBTQ+ icons like Laverne Cox, Adam Lambert, Ciara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jonathan Van Ness and Ellen DeGeneres.

One more thing that’s worth highlighting is the fact that the video has been used by Taylor to bury the hatchet with Katy Perry. The two have not been on talking terms since the last few years. They were the best of friends since 2009, but in 2012, Katy was accused of poaching three of Taylor’s backup dancers for her own shows. Taylor later also accused Katy of trying to sabotage her entire tour by hiring people from under her. But all said and done, the two seem like they’re back to being friends now. Towards the end of the video, Taylor, dressed up as a box of French fries, hugs Katy, who is dressed up as a burger.

Coming back to the song, ‘You Need to Calm Down’ seems like it’s a call for online haters to calm down. It’s an upbeat song, and has a summery feel-good vibe going for it. The hook is catchy as well, which means even good news for its prospects. The music video takes place in a colourful trailer park, where Taylor stays with other like-minded individuals. There’s even a pop star look-alike competition where impersonators of Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Nicki Minaj and even Taylor Swift herself are battling it out.
