It’s a trend that isn’t going to die easily, and 2018 saw the peak of it. Remaking old songs for new films has almost always resulted in guaranteed success, which is why producers aren’t hesitating to include them in soundtracks. There is a sizable amount of criticism being directed towards them as well, but the fact is that the people are still loving them. How else will you explain their domination of the charts in 2018? Let us give you a look at some of the most famous remakes released this year.

Dilbar

The original Sushmita Sen item number from Sirf Tum was remade into a Nora Fatehi item number for the film Satyameva Jayate. Its sizzling video was one of the major reasons why this song became such a big hit.

Ghar Se Nikalte Hi

Sung by Armaan Malik and composed newly by Amaal Mallik, Ghar Se Nikalte Hi became an instant hit, and was even turned into a meme by people on Twitter. The original song was a Rajesh Roshan composition from the 1996 film Papa Kehte Hai.

Chin Chin Chu

The chorus portion of 1958’s Geeta Dutt number was used in a Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi song. Jassie Gill and Sonakshi Sinha have sung this track beautifully.

Zingaat

Fans of the original Marathi version hated this new song, but the fact is that the Hindi version became an even bigger hit due to its larger reach all over India. Amitabh Bhattacharya has added the Hindi lyrics to this new track.

Gazab Ka Hai Din

The film Dil Juunglee used the chorus of the extremely romantic song from the Aamir-Juhi starrer Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Tanishk Bagchi has written the new lyrics and even composed the song.

Aankh Marey

Aankh Marey from the upcoming film Simmba starts with Karan Johar saying, “Oh god! One more remix?” It’s proof that the producers have unabashedly given in to the trend of creating remixes. This song is a remake of a song from the Arshad Warsi starrer Tere Mere Sapne.

Sanu Ek Pal Chain

Once again, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was heard singing an immortal song originally sung by his uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Manoj Muntashir has added new lyrics to the track, while Tanishk Bagchi has composed it newly.

Urvashi

T-Series released this gem of a video this September, which stars Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani. Yo Yo Honey Singh however has failed to create the magic that the original A R Rahman number did.

Rafta Rafta Medley

This one takes the old song and turns into a medley featuring portions of a number of other songs. Its music video features cameos by big stars from the industry.

Badan Pe Sitaare

Sonu Nigam revisited this sensational Rafi number, and impressed us all with his performance. The song from the film Fanney Khan didn’t become as big a hit as its makers would have expected it to be, just like the film itself.

We wonder if this trend of reviving old songs will continue in 2019 or not.
