It’s not every day that you are fortunate enough to stumble across a Bollywood movie song that is neither a heavily produced dance music or a heart-wrenching ballad. But the second song released from the album of Kajol’s upcoming movie Helicopter Eela is just that rare gem. Titled “Yaadon Ki Almari”, the song was released recently and within a short span, has garnered more than 6 lakh views and counting.

If nostalgia were a song, Yaadon Ki Almari would be it. Undoubtedly the most charming part of the song that comes across immediately upon the very first listen is the lyrics. It is very unusual for a song to appeal through its lyrics to listeners that are hearing it for the first time, as we usually tend to pay more attention to the tune. But trust Swanand Kirkire to catch your attention at once with the simplistic charm of his words in this song. The lyrics are very simple, written in an almost conversational discourse, and yet they hold the poetic potential to take you for a walk down the memory lane of your college days.

While speaking to HotFridayTalks.com about this song, lyricist Swanand Kirkire says, “We wanted to make a song that would represent Eela. I had in mind to write a song about nostalgia because nostalgia is something we all love. Our life itself is like an almirah of different memories, from where we take out one memory at a time and our future also gets guided by these.”

A lot of the credit why the lyrics can shine through the song goes to the composer Amit Trivedi. And music producer and arranger Meghdeep Bose has also done a great job to bring out the right purpose of the song. The composition is simple, fitting perfectly with the laid-back words of the song. Palomi Ghosh has done a very good job at rendering the song, as her voice and technique fits perfectly to complete the appeal of this track.

The 2 minutes and 14 seconds long music video shows Kajol’s character Eela recording and shooting for her very own song, a dream that we know from the trailer of the movie, she had sacrificed to invest herself completely into being a mother. A few other glimpses of the movie also have a fleeting presence in the video. Even though the video on YouTube is the shorter version of the song, the full track is available for streaming on different platforms including Apple Music, Wynk, and Saavn.

Based on the issue of helicopter parenting, starring Kajol and Riddhi Sen in the focal roles, Helicopter Eela will be released at the theatres on the coming 7th of September.
