Yo Yo Honey Singh is back once again with a new song, which this time is a bhangra and hip-hop combo that samples Malkit Singh’s classic ‘Gur Nalo Ishq Mitha.’ The original artist also features in the song, which has been released by T-Series in audio as well as video form. This music video stars Navpreet Banga, Chaya Kumar, Shivani Bhaghwan and Rajan Aujla, apart from Yo Yo Honey Singh and Malkit Singh themselves.
The song literally mixes bhangra sounds with hip-hop beats that give Yo Yo Honey Singh the canvas to belt out his usual raps. These include the starting lines, which go, “Ho lakk tera patla. Just move it round and round. Main tere utton waara. Dollar Euro Pound.” The song doesn’t take time to get to the hook line, which is of course, the original song, “Gur nalo ishq mitha. O gur nalo ishq mitha. Rabba lag na kisey nu jaave. O Gur nalo ishq mitha,” with “OH HOs” and “AAH HAs” chorusing in between. This new version reserves a large part of itself for Honey Singh’s raps.
Coming to the music video, it takes place at various locations, one among which is built to look like a giant boombox. A large number of dancers accompany the two main artists in their bhangra moves. And like we said, Navpreet Banga, Chaya Kumar, Shivani Bhaghwan and Rajan Aujla also make their presence felt with their snazzy dance moves.
The original ‘Gur Nalo Ishq Mitha’ was also sampled in a song from Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor’s recent film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. That version was sung by Navraj Hans and Harshdeep Kaur, and had been composed by Rochak Kohli, who by now, is known for recreating new songs from old ones.
But the presence of Malkit Singh in the new ‘Gur Nalo Ishq Mitha’ is one thing that makes it special. You can watch the music video in the space above.
