Zayn Malik Recreates Kailash Kher’s Teri Deewani

Yay or Nay? Zayn Malik's rendition of Teri Deewani

Aristotle once said all art is an imitation. Every great piece of art hence is a recreation of another including music. In a sense, we can never outgrow covers. They are a way of passing a track down generations while leaving enough room for improvisation. They also create nostalgia and take you on a different ride altogether. Be it the Twenty one pilots’ cover of Elvis Presley’s Can’t help falling in love or Zayn Malik’s latest Bollywood cover, we can never get enough of them.

Zayn Malik has previously on more than one occasion expressed his ardent love and admiration for Bollywood. His favorite track as he has said is Chal Chhaiya Chhaiya from Dil Se and his favorite movie is Devdas. But the Dusk till dawn singer has given a voice to this love for Bollywood by uploading a video on Instagram, which is a rendition of the famous song Teri Deewani originally sung by Kailash Kher.+

It is an acoustic version and this is the first time the singer has sung in Hindi; hence in a way, it is his Hindi debut. This cover surely bears testimony to his immense love for Bollywood and we couldn’t be gladder. Zayn has made the track his own, sitting casually with his guitar and singing along.

Teri deewani was released way back in 2006, in the album Kailasa and remains till date one of the most famous tracks of Kailash Kher.

There are, however, mixed opinions about the cover. Many have taken to criticizing Malik for this futile attempt. Some people even claim that he has legit killed the song. Well, you surely cannot expect a pop singer to sing a classical song with the same ease as that of a classical singer. Well, whether he has failed or won, he surely scores brownie points just for trying this track in the first place!

Instagram post of Zayn’s father with Dilip Kumar:

Malik definitely adds his own twist to the song and his “Tere naam se jee loon” would give goosebumps to any Indian/Pakistani Zayn Malik fan. He has recently also uploaded a picture of his father along with Dilip Kumar. Proof enough, Pillowtalk singer is a serious Bollywood buff.

Zayn, in fact, has been uploading a lot of covers on his Instagram. If you don’t follow him already you probably should. His mellifluous voice and guitar skills will surely take you on a different ride.
