It is said that a secret is best kept between two people. Your partner can be someone you can trust with your life, so what harm can a little secret do? Well, apparently it won’t, but there still can be certain glitches in this otherwise correct fact. Our lives, to a great extent, are shaped by the secrets we grow up with. While there are some we forget, there are many which haunt us throughout.
Now, when we get into a relationship, we expect the other person to be completely honest about each and every aspect. To be on the same page with the one we love, ideally, we must also be equally honest. But there is always a
little part which we want to keep to ourselves. It is always best to keep a few secrets to yourself and not share it with your partner.
But this definitely does not mean that you make this a habit and start concealing major things like infidelity and affairs from your partner. That term would still be “cheating” and it would always be unpardonable. While some may consider hiding the number of sex partners they had as keeping a secret, that should never be kept from the partner. Imagine running into one of them. What would happen then? How would you explain? These questions are bound to pop up in your head, and you better pour them out to avoid unnecessary complications.
You are not defined by the relationship you are in. You would still have your views, perspectives and choices. Out of these, there might be some you may not want to share with your partner, and that is completely fine. In fact, if you are careful about what you are sharing with your partner, it will only make your relationship grow stronger over time.
We all have our dark sides, and when we spend enough time with someone, we often tend to express that dark side in the form of revealing secrets which have formed that dark side. That is unnecessary because we never know about the way in which our partner would react to that dark side. You may hope that he or she will understand, but there are fair chances of your partner not relating to you about that. We cannot entirely blame the other person here, because maybe your partner has not faced a similar situation. So it’s best to not let that particular out of the bag.
To know what exactly will make your relationship last longer is the only key to a successful relationship. Also, if you pour your heart out to one person, then the person, in due course of time, will lose interest in you. That will be your doing because you left nothing intriguing in you anymore. Keeping a part of you for yourself is not only the best for you but also the greatest thing you are doing for your relationship.
All of this doesn’t mean the love has been lost between the two of you. If anything, it will only grow deeper. So look before you leap for that long lasting love life.
