Are you or have you ever dated a person who is wonderful when you both are alone, but refuses to introduce you to their friends? It is all romantic when it is only the two of you, but he or she never takes you to meet the friends, plans things only for couples, and does not even tag you on memes on social media?

You would have introduced them to your friends and family, but you don’t know anyone from their life. If this is the case, then you might be the victim of stashing.

What Is Stashing?

Exactly this! ‘Stashing’ is a common dating trend where people hide the person they are dating from everyone in their life. The main reason behind this atrocity is that they don’t feel that their partner is good enough for a long-term relationship.

But why would they hide you from everyone? Especially if you too are in it for short-term, what is wrong with telling people about your current relationship status. Because, apparently, stashers run by the theory that by hiding you, they are creating a theory that they are free to move on when they want to.

People with an ‘avoidant attachment style’ like to keep their partner at arm’s length. They avoid too much closeness and prefer their independence, and they are the least likely of the types to introduce family and friends to someone they started dating. Especially these days, when BAE’s mark each other multiple times on memes in a day, hiding someone from friends can mean something somber.

Some tell-tale signs of being stashed are not meeting your partner’s family or friends despite dating for a while, not appearing on any of their social media feeds, and your partner not mentioning you when discussing what their plans are on the phone. Have we heard that partners like to show off each other when deep into a relationship? So if your partner is not speaking about you to their friends, then you need to become aware that either they are ashamed of you or they are stashing you.

So, if you see signs of being stashed, talk to your partner. It might be unintentional. But if it is really the case, you might have to consider your dating options again.
