Relationships are the necessary fodder of life. It feeds you with the love you so deeply desire. Few relationships last the test of time while many don’t. But the ones that last for a year are in a way promoted to a new level of the relationship school. There are new challenges, new tests, new games, new stories but with the old, familiar, and beautiful company of your partner.
Relationships undergo metamorphosis just like the caterpillars. Sometimes, it takes a year to become a butterfly and sometimes more. Every experience is unique and every relationship matures at its own pace. My attempt here is not to generalize but note down few common observations.
The Ultimate Comfort Level

After that first year of a relationship, the partners start feeling extremely comfortable with each other. To say it in simpler words, yes, the ultimate comfort level is reached. You both can eat like an animal when you are around each without fearing any silent judgment. You can wear whatever you want (or nothing). You have by now seen each other take shit, burp, fart, and even vomit. There’s nothing really left to be ashamed of any more. You have both accepted each other for who you really are and that feeling is beautiful to say the least.
Best Friends

With all the inside jokes and finishing each other’s sentences, you and your partner become best friends after one year of togetherness. You tell each other EVERY THING. You talk a lot and your day is incomplete without writing down everything that happened in your very personal diary- your lovely, patient partner. You care about each other in a more realistic manner where you make sure they are eating properly or are getting enough sleep. You are literally the go-to-friend for each other by now.
You Know Each Other, Like REALLY Know Each Other

You both understand each other like never before. One stare and you know you got to abort that mission. One smile and you know you did the right thing. You don’t need words to express any more, that’s the level of understanding. When on a date, you know exactly what to order. When on a shopping spree, you know exactly what they’ll like. You know each other’s interests by heart and start giving less meaningful and more USEFUL gifts like ear phones! The telepathy game is STRONG AF by now! You know exactly how they will react to your latest breaking news and they know exactly how NOT TO if they don’t want to wake up single the next day.
One year mark is generally a make or break line for a relationship. In one year, you have gone through everything and seen most of each other. You now know exactly what you have signed up for. So, if you are happily crossing this line with an intention to stay together, congratulations. Congratulations, because the chances are you have found the one.
And remember, your relationship has only just begun!
