Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park: Darjeeling

This one had to top my list, not because I grew up visiting the animals in this zoo but it is the largest high altitude zoo in India and also the cleanest. The animals in this zoo look happy! It’s also popularly known as the Darjeeling Zoo. They house a variety of animals like the Siberian tigers, snow leopard, Yaks, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan wolf etc. and it’s best known for the red panda and the dafey monal bird(Himalayan pheasant). What’s nice about the zoo is that the animals have ample space within their enclosures to move around freely. It’s one of the most well-maintained zoos.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park: Chennai

Arignar Anna Zoological Park, also known as Vandalur Zoo is located in Vandalur, about 15 km from the Chennai Airport. It is filled with walk-through aviaries and sanctuary aviaries, crocodile enclaves, an aquarium surrounded by a pond and butterfly houses. One can trek inside the campus or go on an elephant safari around the zoo and if you are tired and hungry, you can stop by for a snack at the snack bar.

Pt. G.B Pant High Altitude Zoo: Nainital

Located in Nainital, Uttrakhand, the Pt. G.B Pant High Altitude Zoo is at the height of 6,900 ft above the sea level and one gets the most spectacular view. The zoo is accessible either by foot or a shuttle service, and some of the wildlife species found in here are the Tibetan wolf, Himalayan black bear, Royal Bengal tiger, leopard, barking deer, etc. Besides that It also you can see a variety of high altitude birds in this zoo.

Nehru Zoological Park: Hyderabad

The Nehru Zoological Park is around 16 km from Hyderabad. There are around 100 different species of animals, reptiles, and birds here. The Bengal tiger, Indian rhino, You can even enjoy safari trips throughout this zoo besides being able to witness feeding sessions. They even house a natural history museum within the zoo.

Nandakanan Zoo: Odisha

Located in the capital of Odisha, the Nandakanan zoo, is the house for the Indian pangolin, Indian rock python, Asiatic lion, crocodiles, and white tigers etc. The zoo also has 34 large aquaria where you can spot different kinds of freshwater fish. The unique beauty of the zoo is the large orchid house spread over five thousand square feet. No wonder then that the zoo is called Nandakana which means The Garden of Heavens!
