You can couple your wanderlust with a marathon to best explore a new place. Your feet could be the best vehicle to help you experience a destination in its truest sense. As you run a marathon, get to explore the local streets and avenues, otherwise missed on a touristy agenda.

While we have the Ruggedian Ultra Marathon in Kolhapur on 11th February 2018, here are some of the other amazing marathon destinations around the world.

Great Ethiopian Run

This could be the most fun of all the adventure marathons, with thousands participating in the 10 K run along the third highest city of the world, Addis Ababa. Although some of the ace marathon runners are from Ethiopia, this run has a relaxed and fun vibe. For some non-competitive speed, and great fun, you must head to the Great Ethiopian Run.

Marathon of the Midnight Sun

The most northerly marathon, it is located around Tromso in Arctic circle. The race takes advantage of the long daylight hours throughout June by kicking off at 8pm, when the sun is still low in the sky. You can cross the Tromso bridge which allows an expansive view of the icy landscape surrounding the marathon.

Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon

The highest marathon in the world, this race is not for the weak-hearted. Starting at Everest Base Camp, the annual marathon, held each May, traverses mountain trails through the sublime landscape of the Himalayas. Runners are required to report three weeks in advance to acclimatise themselves to the Himalayan travails. Although the trail runs downhill, this marathon is meant for hard-core runners.
