If you are someone who loves water sports, chances are you are a disappointed with the ban on water sports in Uttarakhand as the state is one that you would associate with water sports, especially river rafting. Chin up! There are a lot many other destinations where you explore for river-rafting.

Jammu And Kashmir, Indus River

The challenging Indus is on a ‘high’ during the months of June till late August. The water is extremely cold as the river passes through the coldest areas of the country. Indus has grade 1-2 rapids in some places, but mostly the difficulty level remains between 3-5. The stretch between Alchi and Khalsi is the most challenging one, with long series of rapids that keeps the thrills high for the rafters. The total rafting stretch is of 25 Km.

Himachal Pradesh, Beas

Rafting in the Beas in the Kullu valley starts at Pirdi, stretching down to Jhiri. The entire stretch is about 15 Km. Beas will offer you 1-4 grade rapids as you raft along the currents. There will not be a moment for you to breathe normally, with the exciting rapids. You can raft here throughout the year except mid-July to mid-September. The best months for rafting is from March to July.

Flowing down edgy slopes of the Deccan Plateau of the Western Ghats is the river Barapole. The rafting course swirls through the picturesque Coorg. Although, the rafting stretch here is only 8 Km, the river sports rapids ranging from 2-7 grades along the entire course. The best season to go river rafting in the Barapole river is during the monsoons and post-monsoons – June to September.

Kundalika is a small river yet flows mightily through the Western Ghats The river originates from a small Maharashtrian town called Bhira. This is one of the few places where river rafting runs all around the year, yet the best months are October to mid-May. Difficulty level is not much if you choose to raft in Kundalika, and ranges only from Grade 2-3, but the scenic beauty and the splashes of water combine to create enthralling memories.
