National Highway 66 passing from Kannur to Thalassery holds a treasure for who love the beach. Muzzhapilangad beach is Asia’s longest drive-in beach. the 4 km stretch of pure sun and sand is a dream destination, right here in God’s own country, Kerala.

You can drive on the beach, as the waves come and go, sometimes crashing against the wheels of your vehicle. It is a rare adventure, especially for those who love long drives on the beach.

Before the Moidu bridge on the way to Thalassery from Kannur, you have to take a small unpaved winding road on the right. This exit leads to the Muzzhapilangad beach. Rated among BBC’s top six drive-in beaches around the world, this is one of its kind coast in India.

The beach also boasts of a hidden island. Just a few km away from Muzappilangad Beach is the Dharmadam Island. In fact, you can walk to this island during the low tide. It is a private spot, secluded from popular tourist gaze. You can also enjoy its serenity if you are looking for an escape from the city bustle and din.

Muzzhapilangad beach is also a great place for water sports like paragliding, parasailing, power boating and catamaran rides. An interesting feature of this beach is the line of black rocks against the coast that bar high waves from crashing on the beach. Due to this natural arrangement, the beach offers a safe swim throughout the day.

You can also enjoy the local delicacy of Blue mussel sea food, which is a rarity on this stretch of coastal India.

This place is properly linked by all means of transport. One can reach this place either from Thalassery station (7 km away) and Kannur junction (16 km away from this place). Karipur international airport is the nearest one.

The best time to visit Muzhappilangad Beach is from October to April. Though the beach offers a pleasant weather throughout the year.
