Message In A Bottle On The Ganpatiphule Beach

The gorgeous Ganpatiphule beach and the message in the bottle

I was at the Ganpatiphule beach almost a decade back, and the one thing that I very very clearly remembered was the absolute beauty and cleanliness of the beach. Living in Mumbai, one of the saddest truths is that, even though we have so much chance of a beach life, the waters here are just not fit enough to be near.

And of course we are to blame.

So when I suddenly planned a beach weekend to Ganpatiphule, of course the images in my mind were that of the never ending stretches of clean sand and really clean water. The water at the Ganpatiphule beach is clean to the point that it does not make your legs or body feel sticky or itchy.

The beautiful stones on the beach

So, it was quite saddening when I found this empty plastic bottle in the beach sand. This I must say was kind of a deviation. The beach was very clean, and people were actually mindful of throwing their garbage in the bins that were placed around in the shacks.

But I guess we still have a long way to go before we can proudly say that people in our country have some civic sense.

Look at this path! I discovered it while trying to find a way to one of the quieter beaches.

It is not a common way as you can tell, and that is what makes it so beautiful. I saw some really cute butterflies out there, and loads of chameleons sun bathing (and I was definitely not brave enough to go near and click them).

The only sound through the entire path was the sound of the waves slowly crashing on the beach, and the chirping of the birds and the insects. That’s it. No loud songs in the car, no sound of phones ringing (my network was completely gone) and no human voices. By the way, if you are alone, definitely steer clear of going here at dark, may not be the best choice.

At the end of this path, I found the perfect campers’ delight, a little clearing where a small portable tent was parked, with an old foreigner couple relaxing in the warm sun.

They surely had the best room in town, and I told them so too 😉

There’s nothing as relaxing as soaking up the sun on a clean beach

I am a beach body and I think you already know by reading my stories here, but more than anything else, it’s the joy of seeing a quiet, uninhabited and clean beach that makes all my travels so worth it.

If you plan a trip to the beaches of Maharashtra, make sure to keep Ganpatiphule on your list – about 7 to 10 hours by road from Mumbai (or you can check the train options too).
