If you are a wildlife lover and have ever dreamt of spending a day with them in their natural homes, then you should not miss a trip to Dalma wildlife sanctuary. This does not mean a jungle safari. You can actually spend the day with elephants, in their midst, enjoying their company without any fear.

Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the catchment area of Subarnarekha River offering suitable habitat for wildlife to exist. Explore this pristine ecosystem guarded with dense forests, rare wildlife, and lush hills for a wild weekend.

You can take a trail through the thick forest on foot. Nowhere else can you do that. All other wildlife sanctuaries have a gypsy safari for such exploration. Here, you can actually take the road, without any fear.

The wildlife sanctuary houses an ancient Shiva Temple which holds great importance among locals. People from all walks of life visit the temple to offer prayers on the eve of Mahashivratri. After visiting the shrine, you can also visit the Dalma Mai shrine after whom this sanctuary has been named.

Apart from the playful elephants, the sanctuary is also a habitat to leopard, barking deer, mouse deer, sloth bear, and giant squirrel. You could easily come across a herd of mouse or barking deer, or have giant squirrels jumping over your head as you take the trail into the forest.

You can even enjoy a rustic stay in the bamboo huts inside the wildlife sanctuary. To wake up to the sound of the gurgling river and chirping birds, without the honks of traffic and the city din is a gift in itself.

Dalma is located near Jamshedpur, and you can also partake in the tribal culture of the vicinity. You can get a wholly immersive experience by taking part in their routine and sharing the local cuisine.

The best time to visit Dalma is from October to March. You can take the NH 33 from Jamshedpur, from where Dalma lies at a distance of 33 km.
