Things That You Should Not Miss If You Are Visiting Amsterdam

A holiday to remember!

My holiday in Amsterdam was like a dream come true. It was and will be one of the most beautiful memories in my life. There is a lot to see and do in this beautiful city.
Visiting Amsterdam for a holiday was one of the best decisions that I took in my life, It’s one of the most charming places I’ve ever seen. Laid back bars, world-class museums and a whole lot of food to choose from at the lovely little restaurants, it almost felt like my stay was too short as there was never a shortage of things to do there, the only shortage was time!

Nevertheless, I managed to see and experience quite a bit, even though I might have missed a few things, but that gives me more reason to go back to Amsterdam again doesn’t it?

Let me share a list of must see and must do things in Amsterdam that you must definitely add to your bucket list.

Amsterdam City Walk

The Amsterdam City Walk is something that I highly recommend. Having a local guide to take you around the city and explain the city and it’s history to you is a great idea, because they are the ones who know the city inside out, and may even give you some valuable suggestions as to what to eat, where to eat, what else to see, the best nightlife etc. So it’s always wise to do the city walk first, that way you know exactly what to do next!

Take A Bike Tour

The best way to enjoy any place is either by foot or on a bike! All over Amsterdam, you will notice that the people love using bikes more than vehicles. They love cycling around the city and you should try it too. The best part is they have separate paths for bikes, cars, and pedestrians respectively. It’s one of the best experiences especially for people like us who come from overcrowded cities like Mumbai where there’s not enough space for people to take a walk even!

Canal Cruise

Amsterdam is famous for its canals, and because there are so many canals, there are as many different kinds of cruises to choose from. If you are traveling with your SO,(like me!)the most romantic thing to do is go on a candlelight cruise, it’s beautiful, trust me. That’s not all, you get to meet other tourists interact with them while enjoying the cruise.

Albert Cuypmarkt

This is one of the largest street markets in Amsterdam and it’s named after the famous Dutch artist Albert Cuyp as the name suggests. It’s a market where you can find anything from food to clothes and also stuff like weed and hash etc. which is legally sold in Amsterdam.

The Red Light District

Another thing that’s legal in Amsterdam is prostitution. The Red Light District in Amsterdam draws a lot of tourists every year, it’s one of the most famous tourist attractions. The place is also known as Bull Dog locally. What I found fascinating is that in this area, there are places where you will notice a blue light and that apparently signifies the gay area. If you’ve watched Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal, the hotel where Anushka is shown staying at is loc, of course, opposite this Red Light area!

The Rijksmuseum

Though I am not that big a fan of museums, the Rijksmuseum is a fascinating place. It is a Dutch national art and history museum, it has some priceless work by famous artists like Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Frans Hale among others. Also right behind the museum is the huge I Love Amsterdam banner where tourists normally click pictures as a memory of Amsterdam.

Royal Palace of Amsterdam

Used mostly for royal events, the Royal Palace of Amsterdam is located on the Dam square and is also open to public most of the year.

Heineken Experience

Last but not the least, I would like to mention the Heineken Experience. This was one experience that I absolutely loved! To be able to actually get a close look at the brewing process of beer and take a journey through the history of the Heineken family and the beer, of course, was a great experience. What’s more, we not only got to taste the beer but also got to learn the finer points of beer tasting and how to raise a toast. You can enjoy some scrumptious food along with your beer here.

Though I could go on and on about many more places and my experiences in Amsterdam, it would be best for you to go and make your own memories, exactly like I did!
