Have You Tried The Kitesurfing At Rameswaram

For a truly immersive experience of the sea, this exciting sport is a must. The crystal waters, the virgin beaches, and the natural landscape of the idyllic island of Rameshwaram make it to the check-list of any traveller’s dreams.

Rameshwaram is located in Tamil Nadu on the east coast of India. The eastern coast of India receives stable & strong trade winds for almost 9 months every year. Add to this the natural charm of blue waters and flat water lagoons. It is a kite surfer’s paradise.

There are plenty of kite spots on this island which is nestled in the Gulf of Mannar Marine Reserve. It is suitable for beginners as well as pro-riders, who would like to explore. The location is just 30 km across the bay from the world famous kite spots of Kalpitiya in Sri Lanka, but a better-kept secret with just a handful of kiteboarders.

Here, kite surfing is done only after special permission and under professional guidance. It requires a technique of wave-riding on a surfboard specifically designed for the activity. It is like a combination of snowboarding, surfing and paragliding. The main kite school is a walk away from the kitesurfing site.

Rameshwaram also offers other water sports like snorkelling and kayaking, so you can take a trip here for the whole package of adventure. You can read Rameshwaram by road or rail from Chennai, and the nearest airport is Madurai. Autos are a plenty to take you around the island. The best time to visit is the winter months from October to March.
