Himachal Pradesh has many attractions for the mountain-loving traveller. Many people trek through the Tirthan Valley or the Banjar valley. But many also miss the hidden treasure here that is Jibhi.
Jibhi is a quiet little hamlet in this valley. Wooden houses a couple of storeys high are perched in clusters on elevated slopes. Their intricate carvings and cantilevered balconies blend seamlessly with the landscape. You can stay at one of these homestays for a rich experience of the Pahari culture in Himachal.

The mountains surrounding Jibhi are lush with pine and cedar forests and it is also just one hour away from the Great Himalayan National Park. A short drive from picturesque Jalori Pass, Jibhi is a good base for hiking, birding, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors.

Outside the hamlet, there is an interesting watchtower. Made in the classical Pahadi style, the five-storeyed tower is supported by a masonry wall, reinforced with horizontal timber logs. It has a secret tunnel underneath.

Opposite the tower, the remains of the crumbling Chaini Fort, built in a similar style, have been converted to a Krishna temple.
From Jibhi two different trails lead in the opposite direction. One goes to the Seroyul Lake. This trail passes through mossy Oak forests, where the path is guided by wildflowers and orchids. It gives the feels of an enchanted forest.

The other trail leads to Raghupur Fort. This fort gives a panoramic view of the Seraj Valley. As the mist rolls over the valley and clears in the afternoon to unveil the view of the meadows across, it is truly a magical experience.

You can also try trout fishing at Jibhi. Any local guide can get you a permit and equipment for it. The rivers in the Banjar valley are renowned for angling, and you can spend a serene day in the cool gurgling rivers.
So, leave the madding crowds of the valley behind, and spend some peaceful days at Jibhi on your next trip to the mountains.
