What To Know Before You Take Your First Road Trip

We all love to emulate the road trips from Dil Chahta Hai and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. We think it is all about driving through natural landscapes, with great company and music.

One of the intrinsic factors about road trips is the unpredictability on the road. While road trips are actually great fun, there are some things you should be cautious about, and account for in your planning before you execute the great road trip.

Learning to drive can be fun, but many of us miss the class on fixing a flat tyre. So, before you pack for the trip, get these basics cleared. Check the air in the spare tyre. Make sure that the jack, spanner, and other tools are all in the boot. Carry a spare tube that can be put in the tyre should the puncture be irreparable.

Most of the times, a pill helps those who suffer motion sickness. But if you are driving incessantly through hills and ghats, and someone is feeling more nauseous, then one trick is to sit on a wad of newspapers. Acupressure to the wrist also helps. The person who is sick should sit in the front seat and keep their eyes on the road.

It is essential to carry all the necessary documents, including an up to date PUC. If you going to drive through a different state, then research a bit about their vehicle rules. For instance, in Gujarat, cars have to have a yellow stripe on right headlights.

Be Fuel Ready

Stay alert to the fuel meter in your car. If you run out of fuel while crossing through a mountain or forest patch, you might be stranded for a long time. Start looking for fuel stations when the fuel gauge drops below half and always fill the tank full. You could also carry a can of extra fuel for emergencies, and add cleaning fuel injector as remote places may have unclean fuel.

These tricks might save you some grief on your first road trip, and enable you to enjoy to the fullest.
