Mallika Dua To Padman: Holding Up A Sanitary Pad Will Erase All Your Worries

Here’s what Mallika Dua (and me as well) has to say about the Padman sanitary pad challenge

Mallika Dua To Padman: Holding Up A Sanitary Pad Will Erase All Your Worries

If you have a social media account, you’ve already seen the sudden celebrity images popping up everywhere holding a sanitary pad.

Well, what’s this about?

Of course a movie promotion for Akshay Kumar and RadhikaApte’s (yes, almost everyone is calling it Akshay Kumar’s movie, forgetting the very powerful lady who is also there in the movie, but that’s a different discussion I guess) movie very aptly titled Pad Man.

Of course the movie is handling a very important issue in our country – the lack of safe and accessible hygiene practices to women throughout the country, and especially the rural areas – and how it is important to break the taboo that surrounds the topic of menstruation.

Well, that’s very well when we make a movie around it, and open up yet another chance for families and societies to talk about it (and act on it hopefully).

Maybe finally having a pic of holding a sanitary pad will help people remember about a man named Arjun Kapoor

Expected. If this is a celebrity stunt, Aamir Khan will do it

But what good does it do, when you hold a sanitary napkin in your hand, click a selfie, and put it up on your social media channel?

I have no clue who this man is, just as the man has no clue what this is – nope, it ain’t something you can eat up in your salad buddy

While everyone is busy making friends and ooh-aahing what a wonderful thing this is to do, I loved the response that MallikaDua shared on her Instagram page.

The reactions came up on her Instagram stories, so take a look.

Always remember, each time you feel weak, each time you feel lesser than your equals, each time you feel you’ve been made to feel lesser for no reason and that the fight has just begun, when you feel society and the govt haven’t given you your due, hold up a sanitary pad and post a picture of it on Instagram. You will feel empowered. So empowered. Bye. – Mallika Dua

Right said girl.

Dear Ayushman Khurana, I didn’t take you for one who jumps on to these stunts just to get noticed

The funny thing here is, everyone is going nuts about these celebs and jumping on to the bandwagon too.

But what happens after the selfie is clicked? The pad is laid aside as everyone gets busy on their phones – how else is the image supposed to be shared?

And then? What do you expect these celebs and all the people suddenly getting noticed because they are holding a sanitary pad will do after clicking this? Will they actually go up and talk to their sisters and mothers and girlfriends about menstruation? Will these men go to the pharmacy stores and ask for a pack of sanitary pads, then take it home without hiding it in a black polythene, and actually treat this as a normal biological process?

If you thought yes, you are clearly delusional. None of this will happen. By the time you read this, they have already forgotten what this was about.
