How To Be Motivated To Work When You Are Not In The Mood

The festive season can be very difficult for professionals. Party, food and heels are on the mind. Routine office work can feel tiresome and concentration at work is the biggest victim.

While you are sending a mail, your mind is wandering at how to beat the gang of girls for the best wardrobe. The team lead is ranting on about project targets, and you are thinking of the New Yearparty menu.

So, how to avoid procrastination and motivate yourself to work when you are not in the moon?

When the work is too much to handle

When you feel that the work is overwhelming and you don’t know where to begin, the best strategy is to begin anywhere. Like a deer caught in the headlight, the best bet is to move and to move fast. So, when you feel you are delaying work due to stress and pressure, just start with some bit of work. Before you know it, you’ve accomplished something, and the task goes from way too hard to absolutely doable.

When you are distracted

When the Facebook likes and comments compel you to stay online, when the office colleagues gossip about the impending holidays, or when your beau calls you to plan for the weekend, it is important to insulate yourself. Distractions numb you by shifting your attention away from these consequences. Reminding yourself of what will happen if you continue procrastinating is a great way to make distractions less enchanting so that you can focus on your work.

When you simply don’t like it

Get into the God Father mode and accept that “This is not personal, its business.” Sometime you may like your job, but not like some bit of work. But it is all a part of the day. At such times, it is better to think that the faster you complete your work, the faster you can move on to better tasks.

So, get the seat belt on and get on with work, before the festivities begin.
