Ajay Devgn was all over the town last month to promote his upcoming comedy – Golmaal Again. The film has hit theatres today and has opened quite well.

He is a pro when it comes to action films, he has delivered hit comedies too and also starred in some of the iconic romantic films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Ajay has comfortably starred in all sorts of genres – you name it, he has it.

But did you know that he has been part of as good as 9 south remakes in the past? Though, not all very commercial hits, Ajay holds a maximum number of films, which are remakes.

Golmaal: Fun Unlimited


While Golmaal Again is the 4th installment of Golmaal franchise, however, its first franchise Golmaal: Fun Unlimited was actually a remake of Malayalam super hit film Kakkakuyil. Released in 2001, the film was directed by Priyadarshan and starred Mohanlal and Mukesh.

Drishyam


Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam was a remake of Malayalam super-hit film Drishyam. Essaying the role of the 4th grade fail Vijay Salgaonkar, Ajay delivered an intense, power-packed performance in his common man avatar. The Malayalam film starrer Mohanlal and it was critically acclaimed. Coincidentally, this also marks Ajay’s 2nd film which is originally a Mohanlal starerr.

Action Jackson


Action Jackson was a remake of Telugu film Dookudu, which starred Mahesh Babu. Ajay played a double role in the film, while there were three leading ladies opposite him – Sonakshi Sinha, Yami Gautam and Manasvi Mamgai. The film didn’t work at the Box Office.

Son of Sardaar


Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn’s action comedy was actually a remake of a Telugu film Maryada Ramanna. The movie fared great at the box office and its music too was Superhit. With the hope of beginning anew, a man returns to his village to sell a piece of land he owns. On the way he falls in love with a girl, only to find out later that her parents are looking to kill him.Maryada Ramanna starred Sunil and Saloni Aswani.

Himmatwala


We all knew Himmatwala was a remake of Jeetendra’s 1983 film of the same name. But very few know this that it was originally a remake of 1981 Telugu film Ooriki Monagadu. It starred Jaya Prada and Krishna. Though Ooriki Monagadu and the Jeetu starrer were blockbusters, the Devgn starrer turned to be a disaster.

Insan


An average grosser of sorts, Insan was a multi-starrer film that released in 2005. Starring Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Rahul Dev, Tusshar Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Esha Deol, the film’s plotline revolved around a police officer who gets hellbent to arrest a terrorist who is planning to destroy Mumbai, as well as to settle a personal score with him. Insan was a remake of Telugu film Khadgam, starring Ravi Teja, Srikanth, Prakash Raj, Sangeetha Krish, Sonali Bendre and Kim Sharma.

Singham


We doubt anybody must be unaware of this one! Rohit Shetty’s Singham is an official remake of Tamil Blockbuster Singam, starring Suriya and Anushka Shetty. The film is scene-to-scene adapted from the original, and still managed to become a Blockbuster.

Sunday


Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Ayesha Takia and Irrfan Khan starrer Sunday was a remake of Telugu Hit film Anukokunda Oka Roju. It starred Jagapati Babu, Charmme Kaur, and Shashank in lead roles. Sunday revolved around a voice-over artist discovers that she has lost a day in her life and has no memory of it whatsoever. Hilarious situations ensue when she learns that this may even connect her to a crime.

Yuva


Yuva was not solely an Ajay Devgn film, as it also starred Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi as other lead protagonists. Michael (Ajay), a student leader, convinces Arjun (Vivek), the apathetic son of an IAS officer, to join politics. When Prosonjit Bannerjee (Om Puri), a powerful politician, fails to bribe Michael, he uses his goon Lallan to kill them. It’s an official remake of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil Super Hit Aaytha Ezhuthu. Of course, Yuva too was directed by Ratnam himself.
