An Era Passes Away With Ranbir Kapoor’s Grandmother Krishna Raj Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor’s grandmother and late actor Raj Kapoor’s wife Krishna Raj Kapoor passed away in the early hours today (Monday, 1 October). She was 87 and passed away due to cardiac arrest.

Krishna Raj Kapoor who was also lovingly called Billo by her husband Raj Kapoor belonged to Rewa state, Madhya Pradesh. Her father, Raisaheb Kartar Nath Malhotra, was an Inspector General of Police there. Krishna Raj Kapoor was the fourth among 13 children. She was only 16 when she was married to Raj Kapoor. A well-educated lady, she passed her Matric with distinction but she chose to be a homemaker and a great support to her superstar husband Raj Kapoor. She was always seen actively attending the Kapoors’ annual Christmas brunch without fail and she regularly attended her grandchildren’s film screenings. She was also spotted at a special screening of Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju. Besides being a grandmom to Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Armaan Jain, Nikhil Nanda, Riddhima Kapoor Sahani, Natasha Nanda and Aadar Jain, she was a great grandmother to Samiera Kapoor and Kiaan Raj Kapoor (Karisma Kapoor’s children), Taimur Ali Khan (Kareena Kapoor’s son) Samara Sahani (Riddhima Kapoor Sahani ‘s daughter),Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda (Nikhil Nanda’s children).

Yesteryear actors Rajendra Nath, Prem Nath, Narendra Nath were her brothers. Speaking exclusively to HotFridayTalks.com, her grand nephew(Prem Nath’s grandson and Prem Kishen’s son) director Siddharth Malhotra said, “Krishna dadi was the one lady who we know has touched so many lives with happiness and positive energies. My family for sure, she was my father’s Buaa and his favorite aunt. There isn’t a week where my mom and she haven’t been in touch. She has been a pillar for our family in a way very few related too can be, her aura was and will always be unmatched like my grandmom; Bina Rai and we will miss her always! A loss that’s felt by all as they stopped making women like her a long time ago. More than this, one is still reeling with the shock and she truly is someone who genuinely will be thought off and missed I’m sure by all at my place. I am currently out of India and will be back in two days.”

Raj Kapoor married Krishna had five children; three sons, Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, and Rajiv Kapoor, and two daughters, Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain. On Instagram, Riddhima, the elder of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor’s two children, posted a picture of Krishna Raj Kapoor from her family vacation in Paris and wrote: “I love you and I will always love you. RIP dadi.”

While Randhir and Rajiv Kapoor are in Mumbai, actor Rishi Kapoor left for the USA for medical treatment on Sunday. Grandchildren Kareena, Karisma, Riddhima and Ranbir Kapoor are also currently in Mumbai. The last rites will be performed at Chembur crematorium.
