When picturising our favourite Bollywood actresses on screen, we always tend to think about them as the delicate beauties, with gorgeous costumes, diva-like airs and damsels in distress waiting for their warrior prince or brave lovers to rescue them. However, times have changed, and so has the stereotypical portrayals in Indian cinema. Today we see women portrayed as tough ladies who are no less than the men in any job they do and Bollywood often takes this opportunity to emulate these women who are tough enough to go to any extent to fight the evil.

Here’s a look at some of those roles, which Bollywood actresses have portrayed with utmost perfection, to bring out the strong personality in them.

Rani Mukerji played the role of a cop named Shivani Shivaji Roy posted at the Mumbai Crime Branch. While on her mission to rescue a teenager named Pyaari, she gets to know about the dirty world of child trafficking and then begins her actual story of fight against corruption. After having achieved a lot of praise for her role in Mardaani (2014), Rani will soon be seen in the sequel, Mardaani 2, which is set to go on floors in 2019.

Priyanka Chopra as SP Abha Mathur had wowed us once again with her excellent performance. This movie was a sequel to the 2003 movie Gangaajal, starring Ajay Devgn, who had to put up a tough fight against the corruption in the system. Yet again, after 13 years, SP Mathur, was faced with the similar dilemma, but her strong will and faith in her own abilities got her through the tough fight against the evils in the system.

Sonakshi Sinha In Akira (2016)

Well, you do not always need a cop to fight the corruption and wrong-doings in the society. Akira in the movie by the same name, proved just the same thing. It was a really challenging role for Sonakshi Sinha, as she had till then done the roles of only mainstream commercial heroines. This role proved her mettle and established Sonakshi as a fine actress too.

Tabu In Drishyam (2015)

Tabu played the role of the IG of the Goa Police in the movie Drishyam. Her role in this story was not that of someone who was fighting the evils of the society, but that of a mother who was also a top-ranking officer, trying her best to locate her missing son. Tabu perfectly portrayed the plight of a mother who was also responsible for protecting the society.

Women have for ages fought against the wrong deeds of men, the corruption and the evils in the society. Every woman has loads of strength hidden in them, only waiting to be explored at the time of need and these roles are manifestations of this very belief.
