Can Saif Ali Khan Do Justice To Hollywood Remake Of Chef?

Will Saif Ali Khan’s recipe of ‘Chef’ be better than Hollywood?

Recently, the trailer of Saif Ali Khan’s upcoming film Chef was released by the makers. The film is an official remake of the 2014 Hollywood film by the same name starring Jon Favreau in the lead role. While Saif may have started off his year with a terrible film like Rangoon, he’s certainly hoping that this could be a turnaround for him.

While the Hollywood film was received well in the West, there are now questions being raised about the Bollywood remake. The film’s plot revolves around a popular Chef who after having a massive spat with a food critic over social media, walks away from his routine to find inspiration. He then opens up a food truck which is being built step by step by him along with his young son, just like their relationship.

Considering the last few films that we have seen Saif Ali Khan in, this one seems like an intelligent choice. We are honestly done seeing him pull off man-child roles like Cocktail, Love Aaj Kal and Happy Ending. There’s certainly scope for him to explore more and this may just be his lucky film.

If we even consider that Saif manages to fit rightly in the ‘chef’ part of the character, my worry is that he may falter when it comes to the emotional exchanges of father-son in this story. In the original film, Jon nails those bits and from the trailer of the Bollywood remake, it seems Saif may not come close to it.

With back to back flops of Phantom and Rangoon, there are high chances that audiences are hardly interested in watching Saif’s next. Although, it is quite clear from the trailer that the makers have pushed hard to set the story neatly in the Indian setting so as to cater to the maximum crowd.
