She is that star of Bollywood who made her mark with her first footsteps here. Priyanka Chopra is someone who has proved that with the right script and the right attitude to success and failure, you can reach the zenith of all your accomplishments. She is a global icon, and she is as renowned in Bollywood as in Hollywood, and she has left no stones unturned in making India proud.

There has been a lot of hype about the wedding of PeeCee and her 26-year-old beau, Nick Jonas. After a considerable period of wooing, these two tied the knot in a Christian wedding on 1 December 2018. Yes, it was big fat wedding at the big fat Umaid Bhawan in Jodhpur. While everything went down great and our Desi Girl was showered with innumerable blessings from all her loved ones, there was something that did not go down well with Twitterati. When social media started overflowing with the glimpses of Priyanka’s mehendi and sangeet ceremony, we could see her beaming with happiness, as all brides-to-be are supposed to be, but the happiness of her fans was dulled a bit when she was slammed by the netizens for her apparent act of “hypocrisy”.

She did receive the love and blessings from all across the world on her wedding. The wedding was followed by a grand display of fireworks, and that was when it all happened. According to Twitter users, who were enraged at this, the fireworks not only lit up her new married life but it also gave them some insight into her hypocrisy and double standards.

They called it hypocrisy because Priyanka, being the brand ambassador of an asthma campaign, has had a lot to say about bursting firecrackers. She was diagnosed with asthma at the age of five and she has promoted the use of inhalers. It was PeeCee who had once released a video saying, “Please meri saans ko berok rakhiye. Diwali pe pathako ko skip kijiye.”

Now the reason behind all the wrath directed at Priyanka was that firecrackers, which are an integral part of Diwali, can definitely be a cause of noise and air pollution, but why are firecrackers being welcomed on her wedding itself? The Dostana star was brutally trolled for wearing and roaming around with a face mask on. They called it a mere show off. Apparently, all her anti-pollution campaigns and her care for animals will come across as futile after this wave of brutal criticism.

A plethora of Tweets came in not to wish the newlyweds a happy married life but to troll the Quantico star. Some posts even asked if the crackers used on her wedding were environment-friendly. Some posts indirectly hinted at her act of hypocrisy by justifying her act as she is a “self-dependent woman”, indicating that independent women can do anything.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have tied the knot following the Hindu rites and rituals on 2 December 2018, and we do wish them all the luck for their future, with or without firecrackers.
