Priyanka Chopra will be next seen in the character of Ma Anand Sheela in an upcoming Hollywood film based on Osho’s cult and life. A documentary on the same called “Wild Wild Country” has already been released on Netflix. It has won the Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction series, dealing with the nirvana-seeking cult and its control over a conservative town.The series revolves around the controversial Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (also known as Osho).
Priyanka is planning a film based on the same subject and will focus more on Osho’s his right-hand personal assistant Ma Anand Sheela, who lived in Oregon in the United States. Ma Anand Sheela has been described as a foul- mouthed yet highly charismatic and influential character. She was born in Baroda, Gujarat and moved to the United States to attend Montclair State College in New Jersey. She was drawn into spirituality in 1972 and became disciples to the Rajneesh community with her then-husband Mark Harris Silverman. She was convicted of attempted murder, attempted poisoning, arson and wiretapping in her later life. As of now, she lives in Switzerland with her husband-cum-fellow-Rajneesh-follower Urs Birnsteil in Maisprach, Switzerland. She was sentenced to imprisonment for participating in a plot to kill the US federal prosecutor Charles Turner in 1985 as well.
Chopra announced her project on the latest episode of The Ellen Degeneres Show last Tuesday, when she had come to promote her upcoming Hollywood fantasy-comedy “Isn’t It Romantic” starring Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth as well. She will be playing the role of Isabella, a yoga ambassador.
While the crime documentary Wild Wild Country, has been directed by Maclain Way and Chapman the cast and crew of Priyanka’s film has not been revealed yet. Priyanka is not just starring but is also a part of the production of the documentary.
As for PeeCee’s career back home, she will be next featuring in the Bollywood biographical-drama “The Sky Is Pink”, which stars Zaira Wasim and Farhan Akhtar in the lead roles. She would be playing the role of Zaira Wasim’s mother.
The film on Osho seems to be one film to look forward to!
