15 years ago Karan Johar and his father Yash Johar thought of a story and it’s finally coming alive in a film called Kalank. The film is an epic drama with an equally epic cast! Kalank’ s ensemble cast includes Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapur.
The film will be directed by director Abhishek Varman who earlier directed Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in 2 States. Kalank is set in the 1940s.
Speaking about the film Karan Johar says, “Kalank has been an emotional journey for me! A germ of an idea that I had nearly 15 years ago…a film that was in a pre-production stage helmed by my father…am now proud to Pass it onto the extremely capable and visionary hands of our director Abhishek Varman! A beautifully structured story by Shibani Bathija and an exceptionally fluid narrative and screenplay by Abhishek.”
Karan’s actors have also shared their excitement on their social media handles. Varun Dhawan said, “#KALANK is a film Karan wanted to direct 15 years ago. Now 15 years later that dream will be realised. Feel honored that I can be a part of this huge ensemble and Karan’s dream film directed by #Abhishek. happy to do my 3rd film with #SajidNadiadwala and thankful for the support.”
The rest of the star cast; Alia and Sonakshi too expressed their excitement on their social media. This is also the first time Sonakshi and Siddharth Roy Kapoor will be sharing screen space. Varun and Alia, have earlier acted together in Karan’s Student of The Year 2 beside their other films such as Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. While Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit will be seen together after a gap of almost 25 years!
The cast and crew have begun shooting for the film in a set that has been constructed in a studio in Mumbai. The film also marks the reunion of rumored couple from the 90s – Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit – after a gap of 25 years.Directed by Abhishek Varman, of 2 States fame, Kalank is a period drama set in the 1940s that also stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha.
This film is jointly produced by Fox Star Studios, Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
