I always knew that great things would come his way, being the hardworking and extremely down to earth guy that he is. Kartik and I had a long conversation during the interview for his forthcoming film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. Karthik spoke to HFT about his struggles as a newcomer, his famous monologues, his fears and more.

EXCERPTS

About Pyaar Ka Punchnama and The Famous Monologue

“Pyaar Ka Punchnama is the most loved franchise among the youth. I was surprised that even females loved the film and even the monologue. At an event held at the Sophia College, the girls wanted to hear the monologue and they were screaming ‘monologue, monologue!’ it’s nice to see that the youth today relate to something and it is not made into an issue under the name of feminism. Surprisingly, the Monologue has worked both times, it is difficult for it to work the second time but it did! The whole thing was a single shot but I enjoyed doing it.”

About His Mentor Luv Ranjan

“This is his my fourth film with Luv Ranjan and there is a comfortable vibe that we share. He’s someone who has taught me a lot. He has trained me from being raw to where I am today. I totally believe in what he does, I share a bond like a brother would with Luv sir. He knows a lot about everything and I am happy I got to learn from him. I owe everything to Luv Ranjan sir and I am so grateful that I was at the right place at the right time.”

Being Typecast

“This is bound to happen and I don’t blame anyone. Our industry works in a funny manner, it’s the financiers or distributors who decide what the actors face value is best suited for and this is the amount of money they should put on the film. What happens then is that the actor gets films offered more in that particular genre, because their mindset works that way. I am not scared of being stereotyped, as long as I am getting offered films I like, I have no problems. If I am only getting comedies so be it. For example, Akshay Kumar did so many comedy films but people did not get bored, now he’s doing social films one after the other and people are still enjoying it. What i mean to say is that I am not saturated as an actor and neither are the audience.”

About Whether The Newcomers Today Have It Easier With So Many Different Mediums/Platforms

“I don’t think it’s easier for any newcomer to enter the industry and make a name, there is never an easy way, there are more mediums but it is still difficult and will stay that way because even the competition is rising, more and more actors are coming. I value my position but I am also scared of losing it and not reaching the goals I have set for myself.”

About His Struggles

“I struggled for 3 years and went for every audition and I was unfit for everything, nobody gave me work. I did small roles in small ad films, my first paycheck was 11 hundred rupees. I travelled from New Mumbai to the suburbs in the local train every day, it was tough. I would check on Google and Facebook for auditions happening and also post my profile there. That’s how I got Pyaar Ka Punchnama too. I saw the requirement on FB and applied, I didn’t even have a proper portfolio I sent them a cropped image and wrote: “I am the boy you are looking for!” They called me but I got rejected the first few times, then they finally called me again and gave me the monologue scene and that’s what worked.”

“I was always starstruck, I used to watch them on TV and think what they must be eating, what they like etc. and now people want to take pictures with me and I am so grateful.”

With hard work and dedication, there is no stopping anyone from achieving their goals and Kartik Aryan has proved that and how!
