Indian Cinema has given us several strong women characters through brilliantly written scripts. Today, we bring to you characters portrayed by 3 of the most successful and dynamic personalities in the industry- Rani Mukherjee, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.

Rani Mukherjee – Several Memorable Roles As A Strong, Independent Woman!

Rani Mukherjee has done few really amazing roles when it comes to strong women characters. To begin with, her character in Black is undoubtedly one of the strongest female characters written in Bollywood. Michelle is deaf, dumb, and blind girl by birth and yet she is strong, independent and supports her ageing teacher to the best of her ability.

Yet another powerful performance by Rani Mukherjee can be witnessed in the movie ‘No One killed Jessica’. As Meera Gaity, Rani Mukherjee brilliantly plays an aggressive and passionate journalist who is determined to fight for the truth. She fights every odd to bring an influential culprit to justice. Meera Gaity is a very inspiring and perfect example of a strong, passionate and determined woman of infinite potential.

Lastly, and most importantly, her charismatic role in Mardaani won all of our hearts. Rani Mukherjee’s portrayal of a fierce cop is symbolic of the strength a woman holds within herself. What’s even more interesting is that she plays the role of a real life cop who spent her entire life in solving several child trafficking cases.

Deepika Padukone – Won Us With Her Portrayal Of Piku In The Movie Piku

Piku is one of our most favorite movies. And it is so primarily because of Deepika’s polished and sincere acting as Piku. By the end of the movie, we fall more and more in love with the character Piku. Piku is an independent, flamboyant, and unapologetically awesome woman. She lives her life on her own terms and is extremely protective of the only family she has in his father.

Deepika Padukone as the smoking hot and lively Veronica in the movie ‘Cocktail’ was a treat to everyone. She had a personality that was full of energy and a heart, full of people she cared for. She is woman who would go to any lengths for the people she loved. She is difficult to understand and yet everybody knows one thing for a fact- she has a heart of gold.

Deepika’s role as Naina Talwar in ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is full of inspiration. As Naina, she taught us that we do not have to change ourselves in order to impress the world. We are allowed to be whatever and whoever we want to be. Naina understands that she cannot control how the world will look at her and thus, she lived her life the way she wanted to while believing in her own-self!

Priyanka Chopra – The Mary Kom Of Bollywood

Priyanka Chopra has established her as a terrific actor in Bollywood. And this particular character of hers hardly needs any introduction. The powerful portrayal of boxer Mary Kom by Priyanka Chopra is one of the most memorable ‘strong female’ characters in Bollywood. The movie shows the infinite struggle of Mary Kom during her journey and how she had to go against her family to chase her dream. The movie is particularly inspirational for the sports women in India who are often not given equal opportunities.

Priyana Chopra’s role in the movie Dil Dhadakne Do is rather small, but of great significance. Her portrayal of Ayesha Sangha is symbolic of a strong, independent woman who wouldn’t take anybody’s shit. She knows when to walk away from a toxic relationship and that’s what she does by deciding to ask for a divorce from her husband.

Priyanka’s character, Meghna, in the movie Fashion was rather unconventional but very powerful. The movie shows a dark side of the character through her journey of becoming a supermodel. Her role is inspirational in many ways but most importantly it gives us the courage to dream big and yet never forget where we come from.

These three wonderful women of Indian Cinema inspire millions of women across the globe. We wish them all the luck and light in life! Happy Women’s Day!
