The absolutely cheerful woman that she is, she patiently answered all the questions that were put across to her by the media. She also gave us some valuable information about the Tourette syndrome, which is a neurological disorder and also the subject of her film, Hichki.

She told us how she felt it was necessary to tell people how we all have hiccups, in some way or the other. In our country especially, we have hiccups when it comes to girls wearing short clothes or mothers getting back to work post-pregnancy etc. While there are a lot of social hiccups, she also felt it was necessary to bring out and make people more aware of the disorder called Tourette syndrome. She shared about how she realized why filming Hichki about all the difficulties people who suffer from this syndrome go through.”They have to deal with it all their life. I have spoken to kids n adults who suffer from it. In India people are yet to come out with this in the open and it’s like a social stigma while abroad the same is used as an asset by stand up comedian and they are very open about it and hence deal with it with confidence,” said Rani.

But what was interesting to note was how motherhood has changed Rani as a person, she seems to be in awe of her little girl, Adira. Most of her conversation and her statements revolved around being a mother or about children. Speaking about why she is not exposing her daughter to the media like most of the other star parents (especially Taimur Ali Khan who the social media can’t seem to get enough of!), Rani said that this was a joint decision that she and husband Aditya Chopra took. “Adi is a very private person so we decided to keep Adira away from media because we want our child to grow up in a normal atmosphere. If tomorrow she wants to go to the beach or the park and play, she should be able to do that like any normal child.” She smartly thanked the press photographers too for respecting their sentiments and not clicking her daughter’s pictures!

Speaking about being a working mom now she said that it was easy to manage the shoot of the film without neglecting her child and she gave the credit for that to her team “ The team was very well organized and that’s the only reason I could manage both,” she said. She also added, “ What is the life of an actor if there are no challenges?” She also gave credit to her husband Aditya and said that he helps her babysit their daughter when she’s at work!
