Sylvester Stallone is one of the oldest and biggest names in today’s Hollywood. Throughout his 47 years (and counting) old movie career, Stallone has taken up various roles and has gifted the world with some of the most iconic Hollywood films like Rambo and Rocky. As the actor turns 72 today (6th July), here are some of his most iconic movies which prove that time and age can only hope to maybe someday be able to dim this superstar’s shine, but it is definitely not today.

All the movies of this franchise are boxing sports-drama films. Starting with Rocky (1976), the five following sequels centred round the fictional character of Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone and his career as a boxer. The portrayal of this character by Sylvester became so widely appreciated among fans that he came to be known as Sylvester “Rocky” Stallone and is still referred to by that name.

The franchise consists of four movies – First Blood (1982), Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), Rambo III (1985) and Rambo (2008). The movies, based on the David Morell novel First Blood, revolve around the character of John Rambo, played by Sylvester Stallone, a disturbed Vietnam war expert and a soldier of the US Army Special Forces.

In this movie Sylvester Stallone played the role of a professional hit man called Robert Rath, who is haunted by the memory of him killing his own mentor and is looking for a way to peacefully retire from this profession. However, situation gets him entangled in a challenge with a new hit man named Miguel Bain (Antonio Banderas) and a war of wits ensues.

The three movies of this franchise, The Expendables (2010), The Expendables 2(2012) and The Expendables 3(2014) are all action movies that are themselves tributes to the blockbuster action movies of the 1980s and the 1990s.

In the day and age of instant fame and quick fading of the limelight, such longevity of career as Sylvester Stallone’s is no less than an eighth wonder. A filmography extending a period of almost five decades, a physique of an athlete at even at the age of late 70s, and a career that refuses to stop thriving – Stallone is a living embodiment of hard work and dedication.
