We Are All Cheating On Our Boyfriends And Girlfriends

With our Smartphone, of course.

Ask yourself this and be very honest, aren’t you “friends with benefits” with your Smartphone? You practically exploit each other at your own pleasure and convenience without any direct consequences. Sometimes it even feels like it is you who is getting more exploited, doesn’t it? What? Oh, you thought YOU are the dominant one? Have you ever seen yourself when your phone is out of battery? You go crazy. You act so needy. I wonder how your Smartphone even tolerates such phoniness. Pun intended! Irony, too!

You eye contact with your “romantic” partner is honestly NOTHING compared to the depth at which you gaze into your Smartphone while scrolling your Facebook/Instagram/Twitter and what not. They say love is blind and I have personally seen so many of us go blind while using their smart-phones. In that “moment”, they have no idea what’s happening around them. How romantic, no? You are basically hypnotised by your Smartphone’s seductive powers and then you call yourself “Loyal” and “Faithful”. Oh, are you?

And then, your Smartphone is also your guilty pleasure. The irony being, you never really feel “guilty”. But your Smartphone definitely aids you with that distraction you so earnestly crave. A distraction from your life, its complexities, and its people including your very own “love”! Oh am I implying that the Smartphone is capable of being a paramour? You bet.

The good news is that you do not necessarily give that place to your Smartphone. You can always strike a balance. A balance that keeps the Smartphone from crossing a definitive boundary! A boundary that only your partner (the real one) is allowed to cross! If you give time to the nonsense on Facebook, make sure you also give time to a meaningful book. If you are giving time to WhatsApp and Messengers for keeping in touch with *people*, also make sure to take out time and have a soulful conversation with people around you. The list goes on and on.

The bottom-line is that Technology, including the Smartphone has been a great gift to humankind. But, it is our prerogative to use it like a gift or let it overpower us and become a curse.

Be a good partner. Do not cheat on the love of your life. They deserve your undivided attention.
