#FoodAddas in Pune

Off the beaten tracks into the peths and alleys, these 5 places every foodie must try in Pune.

A hub for students, there is lot more to Pune than the Maharashtrianthali at PanchvatiGaurav, and the Mysore dosa at Vaishali. If you have already tried the chicken sandwhich and the white cheese pasta at Marzorin, and the KheemaPav at German Bakery, there is a lot more to try in the narrow allies around the old city of Pune.

Here are 5 eateries every foodie must try when in the Oxford of the East.

1. Santosh Bakery

This place specialises in potato puffs and cream rolls. The shop front looks directly into the baking area, and the customers can see their puffs coming hot out of the oven onto their plates. The place is so popular among the locals that you will miss your chance to try a delicate puff if you do not get there between 4 to 6 in the evening. Look out for this obscure place as you turn the last bend on Apte Road, behind the very popular Fergusson College.

2. Sweet Chariot

Another petit and charming eatery in the vicinity is Sweet Chariot. They make the best vegetable ratatouille and cheesecake in Pune. The food is fresh and served in generous portions.

3. Maggie Point

Run singlehandedly by a very quiet man, Maggie Point on Law College road is a paradise for Maggie lovers. He prepares the popular favourite in more than 30 ways, in his own style. Even though, you may have had Maggie innumerable times before, it will be a whole new experience here.

4. Kata Kirr

One of the most delicious misal and buttermilk are served here. Spices can be customised to your taste. There are only two items on the menu, and they know their agenda. In the bustling area of Deccan Gymkhana, this place is often packed with locals on weekends.

5. Sinhgad Fort

Though you may have to drive a bit to get here, this fort outside Pune serves the best onion pakoras, bhakri and curd. The Onion pakoras are served with special red chilli chutney with the curd in an earthen cup. This is a must visit in monsoon, as the place is engulfed within clouds, and the chilling breeze makes the hot pakoras and bhakris all the more appetising.
