Sipping on some yummy blended drinks after a super-hectic day or week feels like bliss doesn’t it? All of us love the yummy milkshakes, frappes and smoothies blended with our favorite flavors, be it chocolate, strawberry or coffee. However, much like me, have you ever been confused at a juice corner, unable to decide whether to opt for a frappe, smoothie or a milkshake? Or did you think all three of them are different names of the same kind of drinks? If yes, read on as we try to clear off all the misconceptions or confusions you had regarding the difference between these three.

Frappes – The Chilled Icy Gulp

Frappe is a term mostly used in New England for a thick, sweet, and cold drink which constitutes milk and some other added flavor. Nowadays, most cafes serve coffee frappes as coffee has come to be considered the best-added flavor to frappes. They have a thicker consistency than milkshakes and are served chilled with ice-creams added. In New England, Frappe is simply milkshake with ice cream added in it.

Milkshakes – When Milk Tastes Yummy

As the name clearly suggests, milkshakes are drinks made of ice, milk, and some other added flavour which may include fruit or chocolate flavourings. If you’re not in England, you will have ice cream in your milkshake. There are quite a few varieties to choose from. Earlier, milkshakes also used to constitute alcohol but, not anymore. They are of a thinner consistency as compared to both smoothies and frappes and make for a quick pick-me-up after a meal or simply to enjoy a light, sweet, and cold beverage.

Smoothies – The Creamier And Healthier Drink

Smoothies are perhaps the healthiest choice amongst all these beverages. They constitute a lot of other ingredients like protein powder, fruits and/or vegetables, seeds, nuts, plant-based milk/milk, ice cubes, etc. They are preferred by the health conscious people and can be added to one’s diet for a healthy meal substitute for weight loss or addition to a meal for muscle gain. They’re thick in consistency and extremely filling. Not to mention, smoothies are quickly catching up with the youth throughout the world since they squeeze in a lot of healthy calories in just a drink.

No matter which one you choose, if you’re in the mood for something chilled for those summer days where you want to cool down, either of the three are marvellous options and more or less healthy as well! Win-win, right?
