No one likes to see those panda eyes the moment you look in the mirror first thing in the morning. However, the sad truth is that, those nasty dark circles seem to love us too much to leave us in peace.
Of course the main culprit that causes dark circles is lack of sleep, but there are various reasons that could cause your under eye area to look dark. Here’s a look at what could be the possible reason for your under eye dark circles, and what you can do to reduce them.

What causes dark circles?

Here are some of the most common reasons that can cause dark circles:

• Stress
• Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis

How to remove dark circles at home

Be assured that under eye dark circle is not really a medical problem, unless it is being caused due to some other health concern you are already suffering from. In most cases, taking a few preventive measures and trying a few home remedies can bring relief.


1. Almond oil: Lightly massage the area near the eye with a few drops of almond oil. Be careful to be gentle and avoid the oil from getting in the eye. Apply this at bedtime, leave overnight, and wash off in the morning.


2. Cucumber: It has natural skin-lightening properties as well as astringent properties that will help reduce the darkness and puffiness. Cut into thick slices, apply on closed eyelids for about 10 minutes and wash off with cool water.


3. Rose water: This can help reduce stress and fatigue and relax the area around the eyes. Also, rose water has astringent properties that can help tone the skin. Soak cotton pads in rose water, place on closed eyelids and leave on for 15 to 20 minutes.

4. Tomato juice: Tomato has natural skin lightening properties that can reduce the darkness. Grate a tomato, use one tsp. of the juice and mix with half tsp of lime juice. Massage this around the eye area and leave on till it gets dry. Wash with cool water.

5. Cold tea bag: Applying a cold compress will bring down puffiness and reduce dark circles. Chill some tea bags, place over closed eyelids for 15 minutes.
