1. Grab the hat and sunscreen – Protects you from the sun and looks stylish in pics! Even before you get to the more serious stuff, it’s always good to start with that hat! Now that you’re getting your chance to do at least some roaming about (mind the animals please, if you want to come back alive and check your social media safari pic scores!), buy a hat with a wide brim that will protect you from the sun. Whether it’s sunny or not, SPF 50 can always be your best outdoor friend!

2. Tall socks and full sleeves – Cotton socks are the best to keep your legs protected and avoid sweating, while full sleeves keep arms covered.

You may or may not be wearing shorts, but it is important to still wear tall socks to protect your legs against all those jungle bugs. Leeches, mosquitoes and bugs have a special love for the legs, so you better buy some good pairs in pure cotton. Full sleeved shirts will protect your upper body too!

3. Vaccination and medicines – Some areas require you to get prior vaccination before arrival.
Inform your doctor about when and where you are planning to go. Depending on your overall health and the destination, your doctor will suggest required medicines and vaccination, if any. Carry extra medicines that can help you in case of an emergency, such as an upset stomach, digestive problems, fever, allergic reaction, and so on.

4. Mosquito and bug repellents – Carry enough so that you do not run out of bug repellents.
Depending on your preference, buy enough bug and mosquito repellent creams and ointments that you can easily carry along. While you may find something where you are going, it is best to carry these supplies at all times. The cream and body roll-on ones will work best.

5. Water safety tablets – Instead of lots of bottled water, carry portable water purifying tablets.
Portable water purifying tablets are easy to use and will keep your baggage light, without the worry of taking up too much space. Also, you can use them for drinking as well as for washing your fruits before consumption. These are easily available online and in most leading pharmacy stores.
