We often get an ache in the stomach, and this is something that almost everyone will experience some time or the other.

In most of the cases, a regular stomach pain is not something you may need to worry about, especially if you are experiencing it after a heavy or greasy meal, or if you have not had proper food in some time.

However, there are times when your stomach ache could indicate some other health issues, which, if not diagnosed on time, could turn serious.

It’s best to rule out any health issues by getting yourself examined

Dr Shlok J Lolge is an MD (radiology) and has been practicing since the last 15 years. He feels that often, we tend to ignore our stomach ache as something that will go away on its own. While that may be the case most of the times, it is very important to get a thorough examination done by a medical professional to ensure that the pain that you’re experiencing is not due to some other health issue, such as renal stones, pancreatitis, appendicitis or even gall bladder stones.

Is your stomach pain a sign of the following?

Appendicitis

If the pain is due to appendicitis, you may feel a dull pain in the area near the navel and in the upper abdomen. The pain can gradually become sharper and shift towards the right side on the lower abdomen.

In addition, you may also experience nausea or vomiting along with the pain.

Gall Stones

In case the pain is due to gallbladder issues, you will notice a sharp pain on the right side in the upper abdomen. This pain can also shift or spread to your right back or right shoulder area. The pain can be so severe that you may not be able to breathe properly and may find it difficult to even lie down or sit.

In addition, you may experience nausea, vomiting, fever, bloating and chills.

Pancreatitis

This pain will be present around your upper abdomen and will slowly also move towards your back. In severe cases, the pain can interfere with daily routine and you may find it difficult to do anything.

Other symptoms could include diarrhea and unexplained weight loss.

Renal Or Kidney Stones

You may first notice this as a dull pain around your side or back, but this can soon turn unbearable and spread to your lower abdomen.

You may also experience pain while urinating, nausea and smelly urine.

The best way to make sure your stomach pain is nothing serious is by getting a diagnosis from a medical professional. This will help you take care of any health conditions in the earliest stages.
