Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti’s drama is all set to enthrall you once again next year on January 25! Eight years after Enthiran (Robot), fans are now waiting with bated breath for the film’s sequel to hit theatres, after its multiple delays. Having a budget of 350 crores – the second biggest budget movie from Asia to date after Chinese film Asura – the movie stars Rajinikanth reviving his double role. The movie also marks the Tamil debut of Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who will play a baddie.
We heard that Aamir Khan was offered the role of the antagonist but he rejected the role and it eventually went to Akshay Kumar. Even Big B was reportedly offered the role before the makers approached Aamir. However, the film’s lead actress Amy Jackson recommended Akki’s name to director Shanker, as Amy had worked with Khiladi Kumar in Singh is Blingg.
2.o is a standalone sequel. While it does take older characters from the previous film, it won’t completely serve as a continuation of its plot. In 2.o, Rajinikanth will continue playing Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti, while we will be introduced to Dr. Bohra’s (Danny Denzongpa) son, who serves as one of the main antagonists here. Sudhanshu Pandey will be playing professor Bohra’s son. However, many other elements seem to have changed, including the designs and to some extent, even the tone of the film.

Compelling storytelling by Director S. Shanker
He has directed films like Anniyan (Aparichit), Sivaji (Shivaji: The Boss), Hindustani, Jeans and Nayak: The Real Hero to name a few. Shanker’s movies mostly highlight corruption in different ways of storytelling and have a blend of depth as well as commercial elements. And this time too we are expecting him to deliver a great film.
Chart-busting music by A. R. Rahman
Need we say more? Well, just for your knowledge, Rahman has composed six songs for 2.o’s album, though we have heard that only one of those will actually make it into the film, and that will, of course, be pictured on Rajnikanth. This is the 8th film of AR Rahman and S Shanker together. The jodi has worked on films like Gentleman (1994), Humse Hai Muqabla (1995), Hindustani (1996), Jeans (1998), Shivaji: The Boss (2007), Robot (2010) and i (2015) in the past.

Crisp editing by Anthony
Ghajini fame editor Anthony will be helming the editing duties of 2.o. They say the success or failure of a production lies in the editor’s hands. And looking at his past experience – Enthiran and i – we want to trust Anthony to come up with a crisp product ultimately.

An acclaimed art director that he is, T Muthuraj has contributed to the success of nearly 43 feature films. He has won a number of reputed awards for Best Art Direction and his last acclaimed films were Vikram and Amy Jackson’s i and Sivakarthikeyan and Keerthy Suresh’s Remo.
Oscar winning Sound engineering by Resul Pookutty
Academy Award and National Award winner, Resul Pookutty is known for films like Kaabil, Highway, Kochadaiiyaan, Ra.One, Enthiran, Kick and Slumdog Millionaire to name a few. He is working on 2.o’s sound and we can’t wait to see his magic in this one!
Marvel – DC league of stunts by Professionals
Top Hollywood stunt directors have been handpicked to work on this film. These include Kenny Bates (Transformers fame), Aaron Crippen (Batman vs Superman fame), Dermot Brogan (Mad Max: Fury Road fame), Jimmy Chhiu (Deadpool, Wonder Woman fame), Brian Christensen (The Dark Knight fame) and Steve Griffin (Inception fame). So expect Hollywood style action for sure!
