Alia Bhatt’s Raazi Trailer Gains Critical Acclaim

Alia’s performance as a spy named Sehmat in the Raazi trailer is brilliant

From her role in Highway (2014) to that of Udta Punjab (2016), Alia Bhatt has never failed to stun us through her iconic performances. Although she hails from a family with a strong foothold in the film industry, she has shot to fame and has positioned herself among the top rated actresses in Bollywood through her choice of unconventional roles and her excellent portrayal of every role she does. The recently released trailer of her upcoming movie Raazi, directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Junglee pictures, along with Dharma productions, further emphasizes her skills in acting and the entire industry has appreciated her performance.

The much awaited trailer was released on 9th April, 2018, after a few first look posters and a short teaser was released before this. Alia Bhatt plays the role of Sehmat, an Indian girl, who is married off by her father to Iqbal, played by Vicky Kaushal, who is a Pakistani army officer, so that she can act as a spy and keep an eye on Pakistan’s activities and future plans. The trailer begins with this marriage amidst the Indo-Pak tension that dates back to our struggle for freedom.

While we have had biopic and movies narrating the bravery of several heroes of India, we are already aware of through our history books. Meghna Gulzar has chosen to bring to the limelight, the story of an unsung hero, we never knew about. Her bravery and her contributions to our nation is no less than other celebrated Indian heroes. Alia as the trailer shows is an innocent and obedient girl who accepts her father’s decision and is also willing to play the role of a fearless spy, for the sake of her country.

Set during the unrest between India and Pakistan back in 1971, in the trailer, we also see glimpses of romance between the newlywed couple and a few shots of how she is being trained to be tough and strong. It also shows about the conflicting emotions within Alia Bhatt and how she is tears off between being a wife, a daughter, a patriot and a spy. With the same conflict of emotions on her face, the trailer ends showing Alia pointing the gun towards her husband. No wonder celebs have taken to twitter to praise Alia’s performance in the trailer.

Just like her role in the movie, which reinstates the fact that Sehmat is an Indian before anything else, Alia has tweeted about the trailer saying “Watan ke aage kuch nahi” – nothing comes before my country.

The trailer has increased our anticipation for the movie quite a lot, and the movie is set to hit the theaters on May 11th, 2018.
