Everything about Thugs of Hindostan looks elaborate. Right from their cast to their sets, props, their action scenes and even the costumes that the actors have been given. The costumes of Thugs Of Hindostan are well-crafted and well researched.

In the latest video released by the makers, we get to see how the costume department designed the look of each character. Thugs of Hindostan is a period drama revolving around the rise of the British East India Company and the times when the Thugs posed a threat to the crown.

The film as we all are aware by now stars big names like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Sheikh. In the video, the costumes designer duo Rushi Sharma and Manoshi Nath throw some light on what went into the making of the costumes and how the characters Khudabaksh, Zafira, Suraiyya and Sanichar were brought to life. The costume designers were asked to make costumes that reflected the distinct characteristics of each Thug.

The most interesting story is that of Aamir Khan’s character, Firangi. Firangi’s costume apparently is a potpourri of different things he has robbed from people he meets. He also carries around a whole lot of things in a ‘potli’.

While the brief that was given to the designers for Amitabh’s character Khuda Baksh was that he needed to look like a warrior who’s a farmer at heart! Amitabh says, “The designers went through a huge process of labour and research to design something.”

He also adds that a lot of the sequences in the armour were shot in rain and the leather used to soak in all the water and make the armour as heavy as a metal armour! But AB being AB wore it as his character demanded it!

The most challenging costume was the one the designers made for Zafira played by Fatima, according to the designers. They had to make her stand like a mannequin and drape the fabric for almost 5 hours!

Suraiya’s, on the other hand, say the designers was one of the most interesting costumes to work on as Suraiyya is an extremely layered character in the film and it was fun for the designers to show the layers of her character in the costume. They used transparent muslin fabric. Katrina as Suraiya also wears a nose ring in the film for the first time.

Sanichar’s costumes were the most fun for the designers to design. He dons interesting tattoo of a kundli in the film.

The designers agree that this film has been one of the most challenging films to design for. Thugs of Hindostan is slated for a release soon on 8 November in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
