Guess How Many Months It Took To Design Shahid Kapoor’s Costume For Padmavati

22 local artisans took months to design and finish Shahid's costume.

It’s not just Shahid Kapoor’s beard look for Padmavati that’s been getting all the attention and has also been the talk of the town but his costume in the film too is being talked about. His lavish costumes along with the jewellery that he is wearing is what people are talking about. But did you know how much time and effort has gone into the making of that costume?

It took the designers, almost over four months to design his costume. A lot of research has gone into it, the designers travelled all the way to Ahmedabad and jaipur to research about his costumes for the film. The costumes have been designed by designers Rimple and Harpreet Narula and they explain how tedious the task of designing Shahid’s costumes was. “There is tremendous research that has gone behind every costume that Shahid will be seen wearing in the film,” said Harpreet.

“We sourced organic fabrics from Rajasthan that were then embroidered by hand by 22 local artisans. We have stuck to pure muslin cloth as the base, and then used vegetable dye or hand dye. While we tried to use hues that are associated with masculinity, we also had to balance it with brighter colours, since Rajasthani outfits are all about colour at the end of the day,” she explained.

They would collect old fabrics or buy antiques from the flea markets, things like ins and brooch, which have been used in the film.”We would often collect old fabrics, or buy antiques like brooch or pins from flea markets. We’ve used these trinkets in Padmavati,” added Rimple.

The film will see Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in leading roles. Shahid plays Padmavati’s (Deepika’s) husband Maha Ratan Rawal Singh and as per the first poster that was released, he looks very royal in the getup. We hope the 4 months of efforts just for his costume totally pays-off.
