Have You Watched This Unconventional Love Story Called Loev On Netflix?

A Gay drama we don’t get to see that often in India

Sudhanshu Saria’s debut feature film Loev was made in 2015 but released worldwide on Netflix only last year. Even though the film had its world premiere at Estonia’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in November 2015 and was selected at the prestigious South By Southwest Film (SXSW) Festival in 2016, in India the film was premiered at the 18th Mumbai Film Festival, the film has been critically appreciated but even then not many have heard about the film!

Thanks to our CBFC there is a slim chance that the film will ever be released in the theaters in India. But the good news is that the film can be watched on Netflix and there are more reasons than one, as to why you should watch it.

From the title itself, where love is spelt as Loev, one can see that the film is unique and unconventional. It’s a story about three men Sahil (Dhruv Ganesh), Alex (Siddharth Menon), and Jai (Shiv Pandit). The film focuses on their complex emotional and sexual relationship, it explores the friendship and love between two men.

Sahil and Alex are a Mumbai-based couple who work in creative industries, while Jai is a successful real estate consultant in Manhattan. The real story starts when Sahil meets his old friend Jai and the two go on a weekend trip. The film takes place over 48 hours as Sahil and Jai spend time together amid sexual and emotional tension. The film is an emotional journey and is something anyone can relate to.What is interesting in the film is that even though the characters in the film are gay, they are shown to be comfortable with themselves.

Though the film is about gay love it is like any other love story filled with emotions and what makes the film stand out is the way the director has portrayed the inner turmoils of the characters.
