Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the fifth entry in the Jurassic series finally releases and all who have watched the earlier films might just be a little disappointed with this one.

The last one to be made in the series was Jurassic World, three years ago in 2015. Director Colin Trevorrow brought Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park franchise and made a film about how a futuristic wildlife park genetically modifies its creatures in a desperate to keep selling tickets. Jurassic World was a blockbuster and fans of the Jurassic series were definitely looking forward to the latest release Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is set in Isla Nubar, which was the site of the almost wiped out Jurassic World theme park. The Isla Nubar island is under a threat of a volcano which is about to erupt and the last few dinosaurs left at the park need to be saved. Former park manager Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) lead a dinosaur-rights activist group is hired by hired by Eli Mills (Rafe Spall), to go to the island on a rescue mission. However, they soon realise that Eli Mills has other plans for the dinosaurs! ( Pretty predictable, right there!)

Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire a dinosaur-rights activist in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Once the dinosaurs are rescued from the island, all the action then moves into the castle owned by Benjamin Lockwood (Cromwell) who was behind the original idea to create a theme park around dinosaurs engineered out of an egg. The castle reminds us of the ones we often see in fairy tales, with dungeons etc. The only difference is the prisoners here are the dinosaurs instead of humans! From there on the film becomes a battle between the good and the evil and the dinosaurs become secondary.

It’s easy to spot the good guys from the bad guys in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Though like the other Jurassic series, there are scenes which make you jump out of your seat, there are those moments of tension and unease with those typical stomping around of the beastly dinosaurs etc. There is fighting, there is action and explosions but none of it really grabs your attention or excites you. You could say, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, has rightly been named Fallen Kingdom because the dinosaurs have truly fallen, as most of the time they have been shown as sedated or caged or injured. It’s some of the humans who seem more sinister and ferocious in the film! It’s as if the makers were in a rush to tell their story and tick off their checklist.

All through the film, the actors have no choice but to have that one expression of fear! While the sinister characters are made too obvious again with their expression and dialogue delivery. Like the scene where the little girl enters the room when Mills is speaking to someone on the phone and he yells at her. It’s not difficult for the audience to guess that he’s the bad guy and up to something! Some of the characters are ‘caricaturish’ It’s scenes like this that made the film very predictable and give you the feeling of been there, done that!

Chris Pratt with his favorite velociraptor, Blue

The only thing I waited for by the end of the film was to see Owen and his favorite velociraptor, Blue unite. It felt like ok just make them meet each other and get it done with!

Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom like the magic of the previous films in the series. Watch it only if you really have nothing else to do this weekend!
