His radical political views may have the youth of India divided but there is no denying of the fact that Paresh Rawal is the best in his forte, i.e. acting. Known the best for both his comic and non-comic roles in Bollywood, Paresh Rawal has been an admired face across generations as the ultimate entertainer. Having started his career in movies in 1984, Rawal has perhaps worked in over a hundred of movies. As he turns 63 today, let’s take a look at the choicest ones of his Filmography:
The Ultimate Comedy – Hera Pheri (2000, 2006)

You get to witness Paresh Rawal’s acting genius in his portrayal of the iconic comic character, Babu Bhaiya, in the Hera Pheri series, the first movie of which, called Hera Pheri, released in 2000 and the second installment called Phir Hera Pheri released in 2006. Even though it’s been well over a decade for both the movies, audiences still roll on the floor laughing whenever the trio of Raju(Akshay Kumar), Shyam(Sunil Shetty) and Babu Bhaiya appear on screen.
The Beginning Of The Franchise – Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006)

The 2006 comedy movie directed by Rohit Shetty was the first one of the franchise that followed. Paresh Rawal played the character of a blind retired professor named Somnath in the movie. Even though the movie had a largely comic script, Paresh Rawal, unexpectedly, did not have much to do in evoking the comedy. Rather near the ending of the movie, his character brings about the climax with a dramatic reveal and through his brilliant acting skills he manages to turn the high spirited atmosphere of the movie into an emotional situation.
The Social Satire – OMG-Oh My God! (2012)

OMG is one of the best satirical comedy drama movies produced by Bollywood in recent years. Paresh Rawal plays the character of Kanji Lalji Mehta, an atheist Hindu who decides to sue God after insurance companies deny his claim for his shop that had been dilapidated in an earthquake, stating it is an “act of God” and hence not covered in the insurance policy. As the man takes up his legal fight against God alone in the court, the movie chronicles the ensuing chaos and struggles and the resolution, with the help of supernatural aid.
The Remarkable Action Comedy: Welcome (2007, 2015)

Another movie series that immediately pops into mind at the mention of the name of Paresh Rawal is Welcome. The action-comedy franchise features him in the character of Dr. Ghungroo, in both the installments, namely, Welcome (2007) and Welcome Back (2015). The movies are a hilarious ride up and down the lives of all the characters involved and are a good choice if you’re looking through options for light-hearted comedy.
