Anoushka Shankar is one of those musicians, who hail from a family of musicians and love experimenting with their genre. So much so, Anoushka Shankar has definitely set her own bar, which is at par with her father Ravi Shankar. She has done complete justice to her father and her family, who happen to be culturally way too renowned in India and abroad. Furthermore, Anoushka Shankar has represented India in quite a lot of foreign cities, thus, making her father and all of us, extremely proud.

There are many soulful songs performed by Anoushka on her Sitar, which have left a great mark in music. Some of the best ones are:

Pancham Se Gara

This song was released as a part of ‘Anourag’ which was an album solely by Anoushka. Rhythm plays a huge role in this song which is absolutely enigmatic if you focus on Anoushka’s style in the entire song. This song had been quite popular since the time of its release. We also cannot ignore Tanmoy Bose and Kenji’s contributions on the table and the tanpura respectively.

Dancing In Madness

Straight from the album ‘Traveller’, Dancing in Madness had really mesmerized Anoushka’s audience coming from any sphere of life. As the name suggests, the melodious tune of this number would set your heart into a perfect mood to dance your way throughout the day. The song released in October 2011, and since then, has been trending in many social networking sites from time to time.

The Sun Won’t Set

This song from the album ‘Traces of You’ also features her half-sister Norah Jones. The Shankar sisters jazzed it up by performing duets. However, during the rehearsals of this particular album, their father Ravi Shankar passed away, leaving behind a huge legacy in the hands of Anoushka and Norah. The lyrics, which is too soothing goes like, “I wonder how it felt/beneath the early sun/each sunset keeps me still/the tree has shed its leaves/the wind the evening change, is hardest to resist/the sun wont set.”

Boat To Nowhere

This 2016 release from the album ‘Land Of Gold’ is one of Anoushka’s favorites too. This song, as the name suggests is a passionate one, filled with faith and love. The rich melody mixed with the mood of the song makes it one of the most listened to, from this album.

She and her half-sister Norah Jones have released many songs which they composed together. They were also nominated for a ‘Grammy’ award in 2003. If we look at Anoushka’s career graph as a sitar-player, we’d find traces of Ravi Shankar and Norah Jones in many parts.
