The Punjabis surely love their music as well as their musicians. However, it makes us wonder whether they really look for a deep seated meaning within their songs or even the music videos. This is because; often hugely popular songs as well as the music videos of the songs have very little or absolutely no meaning at all. Nevertheless, what the songs invariably contain are loud EDM music, a convergence of electronic and traditional musical instruments and of course groove-worthy beats. One such recent song that is trending on YouTube with 4.6 million views and counting is named Alert Kudey (Daru Boldi), by Garry Sandhu.
As the music video starts, before the song begins, we see the male and female leads, played by Garry Sandhu and Rashalika sitting on a swing. Rashalika says that it was their last meeting and that their relationship was over and she walks away. Following this, we see Garry involve in drinking alcohol, probably to appease his heavy heart. This somewhat sets the mood for a break-up, however, the song that comes up just after, is far from being sad or gloomy. We see Rashalika trying to get in touch with her lover for weeks, and only at the 3rd week after their break-up, does Garry pick her phone up and he says, it’s been a long time since she called and also adds that he had prepared for himself large pegs of drinks, as he had been really furious with her behaviour. Immediately after this, we see Rashalika dancing with joy! Was this kind of a reconciliation of their relationship? Well, we are really at a loss to decipher that! In the end, however, the girl comes back to say sorry, but again we did not really understand whether this whole sequence was a dream, as the video ends with Garry’s “bebe” hitting him with a stick to wake him up from sleep!
As far as the music of this particular track is concerned, it is definitely a peppy dance number that can be a hit at weekend parties be it at your house or at the clubs. The lyrics, however, do not have much deep seated meaning that would touch you or play with your emotions. Rather it somewhat reminds us of the slangs used by the likes of Badshah and Yo Yo Honey Singh, as Garry also makes use of the “F” word while showing his middle finger in the middle of the video. What we really liked among everything, however, is the inclusion of the flute within the EDM music. The music by Gold Boy really gets some brownie points due to the inclusion of the soothing flute that plays throughout.
To say in a nutshell, Alert Kudey is a confusing story of break-up and reconciliation, with upbeat music good for the dance floor, but do not try to find a meaning behind it!
