Amaan And Ayaan Ali Bangash Share Why They Are Looking Forward To The Peace Tribe Concert

“We are looking forward to create universal music on the stage” Amaan says

Coherence, coordination, and consonance run in their blood. Ayaan and Amaan Ali Bangash, the legendary sons of the legendary sarod player, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, need no introduction as they responsibly take the legacy forward. Music is so deep seated in their veins that it is an integral part of their identity.

As a part of the Peace Tribe concert tour, Ayaan and Amaan Ali Bangash will collaborate with Sharon Isbin, the eminent Grammy winning guitarist, on 20th February in G D Birla Sabhaghar, Kolkata, on 21st Februrary in the Royal Opera House, Mumbai and on 22nd February in the Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi and the world will see an impeccable fusion of Indian and western classical music. The Bangash brothers will play with Vijay Ghate accompanying in Tabla and Sridhar Parthasarthy in mridangam and this amalgamation of melodies will surely enchant the audience with the power of the strings.

Quite excited about the upcoming concert, Amaan and Ayaan shared their excitement while they spoke to HotFridayTalks.com.

“This is for the first time that Ayaan Bhai and I am playing with a guitarist. We had collaborated with electronic guitars, we have done fusion experimental, but never before, with a traditional western classical musician, that too a female guitarist. We are really looking forward to it, because when you are performing with women, it’s a different energy altogether.” Amaan says.

Amaan feels, this concert will seek to bring forth music as a universal phenomenon

Social scenarios are changing for the better in India each day, as we as a nation have learnt to respect women and are celebrating womanhood in every sphere of life. This concert that will see a female guitarist perform in the same stage with men, will also seek to celebrate how music is gender neutral Amaan feels.

Ayaan also feels that this concert will change the perception of the guitar as a musical instrument, especially among Indians, who mostly connect the guitar to rock music.

Ayaan is very happy that India will get to experience the splendor of a classical guitar through the concert

“In India at least, guitar as a musical instrument has very much a profile connected to ads or very much to rock and roll. We are quite used to an electronic guitar or the base guitar. However, when it comes to western classical guitar, the focus has not been as popular as mainstream. So, this is the first time Sharon will be visiting India, and I guess, this is for the first time that India will be experiencing the magic of the western classical guitar. We are really honored to have her perform with us.” Ayaan says.

Amaan also added, “We are really glad that we will have one of the world’s best guitarists performing with us. While we are playing some of the beautiful Indian rendition of ragas, she will be playing some lovely pieces from Mozart and Beethoven. Along with that we have tablas and percussionists, to be played by north Indian as well as South Indian musicians. So, it is not just north Indian music meeting western music, but Western music meeting both the systems of India, which is Karnatic music from the south as well as north Indian classical music. We thus, want this concert showcase universal music, not confined to any country or region.”

It has been quite a few years since they have been planning this concert, and they are really glad that it is finally happening and its all the more special as it is happening in India.

Ayaan remarks, “It took us quite some time to develop the score for the Sarod and guitar, because western classical music is a written tradition, so the notations are a bit different compared to other instruments. However, with some time, our score finally fell in place and finally after many years of planning, the concert is happening. It is all the more special, because the project is happening in India.”

Just like the brothers already pointed out, thought the musical tour will take place in three eminent Indian cities, the concert will be a global phenomenon to be etched forever in our cultural history. Here’s wishing a grand success for the Peace Tribe concert!
